This is a 12 month, fixed, community based, social reintegration programme for young people (17-30) with an acquired brain injury.
The programme is designed to help the young people move on to the next stage in their rehabilitation. The activities we provide include cinema and bowling trips, indoor mountain climbing, environmental projects, picnics, swimming, gym, table tennis, badminton, pool, games and meals out. During the second 6 months of the programme, the focus will be on moving the participants on. This could be to another Headway day, paid employment, training, education, voluntary work or simply greater participation in local community activities.
The session runs from 10.00 until 4.00 and costs £72.00 per session and is based at Insole Court, Fairwater Road, Llandaff, Cardiff (opposite Rookwood Hospital)
Lunch and refreshments are included, along with all activities and transport within the day.
Transport to and from the base is not included and must be arranged on an individual basis.
Head Start Referral Process
• The programme will start in September of each year
• Maximum of 9 participants
• Owing to the nature of the programme and the numbers involved, participants must make a commitment to attend every week and to contribute to the group and the activity as fully as possible. To encourage this and to ensure costs are covered, we will expect payment for each session, irrespective of attendance.
• Applications are available throughout the year
• Referrals will be accepted from any source
• Applicants must meet the Head Start criteria
• Details of the service will be sent to the referee and if appropriate to the potential attender
• Closing date for applications - 1st July
• Funding must be in place before an application is submitted
• Assessments will take place in the potential client's home
Headway Cardiff reserves the right to refuse a referral if:
• our service does not meet the person’s needs
• funding is not available
• the person does not agree to attend
• the person does not agree to accept our guidelines on unacceptable behaviour etc.
• the programme is full, in which case the potential attender will be placed on the day centre waiting list, if appropriate, and the Head Start waiting list.
