Our counselling service is available to anyone affected by brain injury and is completely confidential.

Many people benefit from this type of one to one structured support, talking through issues with a qualified counsellor who has knowledge and experience of brain injury.

Our counsellors, Wendy Mayle & Jo Pickford, have been counselling people affected by brain injury since 1999.

Wendy has been involved with Headway Cardiff for many years, as a carer herself, a volunteer and eventually as our Co-ordinator, a position that she held until 2004.

Jo is a specialist brain injury social worker and has a keen understanding of the difficulties faced by individuals affected by brain injury and their families.

Our service is special as it combines counselling skills with an understanding of the impact that brain injury has on the individual, the family members and the carers.

Where and when

We conduct the counselling on Wednesdays, by appointment only, out of Rookwood Hospital .

Please note that if Wednesdays are difficult, we will try to accommodate you at a more convenient time.

Cost

As Headway Cardiff is a non-profit making organisation, we only look to recover our costs when providing any service. Therefore the fee per hourly session is £30.

Our aim is to provide counselling to anyone who would benefit and we appreciate that personal circumstances vary hugely. In cases where the fee would cause financial hardship we will use our discretion and in some cases will decide to waive the fee entirely.

N.B. As our counsellor is not permanently based at our office and appointment availability is limited, we need 24 hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment.

If sufficient notice is not received, we may have to charge a £10 fee to cover expenses incurred.
